Understaffed on your team? A freelancer gets you up and running quickly

leestijd: 5min | # principals #collaborating with freelancers | 13 October 2020 | Daan De Bock

After months of setbacks, the market is cautiously taking its first steps toward economic recovery. Therefore, it is important to enter the fall of 2020 with full force. But due to the many home-based jobs and economic unemployment in recent months, your employees still have a lot of vacation time left. The well-earned rest, on the one hand, will allow your workforce to continue their work fully recharged, but in the meantime, your staffing is running at a low ebb.

How do you ensure that you still make 2020 a success? We give you our formula for success below!

Flexible talent
To fill the gaps in your workforce, there are plenty of options. For certain positions, you can easily hire a job student to take over the work of your team member for a certain period of time. Although this method has proven successful in the past, it is not equally successful for every type of profile. A lot of jobs require distinct expertise. Think of highly technical skills such as working with Adobe-packages or Outlook software. The last thing you want is a long familiarization phase and spending a lot of time with a worker who comes to assist you temporarily. But where do you get temporary workers who have the right experience and can be deployed plug and play? Freelancers to the rescue!

Freelancers, partners for the future.
Freelancers are the perfect side-kicks to temporarily deploy in your business. Not only do they have a lot of work experience (the average freelancer in the GiGHOUSE platform is 40 years old and has +- 15 years of experience), they are also flexible and quick to hire. Without much effort they quickly rotate with the operations of your company. Since they are real entrepreneurs, the quality is usually so high that the freelancer becomes a long-term partner of the company. So we see more and more that the same freelancer is used both for temporary peaks in workload and to replace sick or absent employees. Also in case of maternity leave, freelancers are the perfect solution.

Practise what your preach
Of course, we would be knocked off the hammer ourselves if we didn't apply our formula for success ourselves. Due to some changes in our current staffing and downtime due to pregnancy, the GiGHOUSE team currently consists of 1/3rd freelancers.
While freelancers Sylvie and Yasmine join us several days a week to call out to find new relevant assignments, freelancer Thibault helps guide our marketing department in creating a new website. Result? Besides a pleasant collaboration, we are running at 100% and making 2020 a success after all!

An analysis shows that freelancers' costs are comparable to those of permanent and temporary workers, making choosing expertise over contract form essential; GIGHOUSE advocates valuing flexible forms of employment and the use of independent experts.
